You Were Made for More: Worship, Work, and the Life You’re Meant to Live

Let’s get straight to it. Most people go through life half-awake. They check the boxes, clock in and clock out, scroll through their phones, and wonder why they feel empty. Why they feel like something is missing. Like their work doesn’t matter. Like their life is just a series of repetitive motions with no real impact.
But here’s the truth: You were created on purpose, for a purpose, at this exact moment in history. That’s not just some feel-good statement. That’s a fact.
Look around. Everything you see—the trees, the oceans, the stars, the intricate way your body heals itself—none of it is an accident. Everything was intentionally designed by a Creator who spoke life into existence. And yet, out of all of creation, only one thing was made in His image: you. That means you are more than just another human going through the motions. You have the ability to create, influence, and shape the world around you.
But let’s be honest. Are you really doing that? Or are you settling?
The Disconnect Between Worship and Work
Most people don’t realize this, but your work is an act of worship. Yep. The way you show up to your job, lead your business, manage your team, or even raise your kids—it all reflects who you believe is truly in control of your life.
Think about it. If you believe your work doesn’t matter, then you’ll treat it like it doesn’t. You’ll cut corners. You’ll do the bare minimum. You’ll live for the weekend and complain about Monday. But if you believe that every task, every conversation, and every opportunity is a chance to reflect excellence and bring value to the world, you’ll operate differently.
Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” That’s not just a verse for church folks. That’s a mindset shift for everyone who has ever felt like their work doesn’t matter.
Your job? It’s not just about a paycheck. It’s about impact. Whether you’re in sales, marketing, healthcare, finance, or flipping burgers at a fast-food joint, you have the ability to bring something different to the table—integrity, excellence, and purpose.
So, the question is: Are you showing up that way?
The Purpose Problem: Why So Many People Feel Stuck
One of the biggest lies people believe is that purpose is something you "find." Like it's hiding under a rock somewhere, waiting for you to stumble across it. But purpose isn’t found. It’s built.
You don’t wake up one day and suddenly know exactly why you’re here. You discover it through action. Through doing hard things. Through showing up, trying, failing, learning, and refining.
And guess what? You don’t have to love every part of your work to live with purpose. Some days, work is just work. But if you commit to bringing excellence, creativity, and service into what you do, you will start to see meaning where others see monotony.
The biggest difference between people who thrive in their careers and those who just "get by" is their mindset about the work they do. One group sees their job as a burden, the other sees it as an opportunity.
Which group are you in?
The One Thing Holding You Back
Let’s be real: the biggest thing keeping you from stepping into a life of purpose isn’t your boss. It’s not your job. It’s not your circumstances.
It’s you.
It’s the voice in your head that tells you, “This is just the way it is.” It’s the lie that says, “You don’t have what it takes.” It’s the belief that your work doesn’t matter, that your effort won’t make a difference, that you might as well stay where you are because “at least it’s comfortable.”
Comfort is the enemy of calling.
The life you want—the one filled with meaning, impact, and purpose—will require you to step up. To stop waiting. To start showing up with excellence. To see your work as a form of worship, not just a means to an end.
Your Move
This isn’t just about inspiration. Inspiration fades. Action changes things.
So here’s what you need to do:
- Look at your work—whether personal or professional—as a reflection of who you are. Are you showing up with intention, or are you just going through the motions?
- Identify one area where you’ve been playing small. Where have you been doing the bare minimum when you could be bringing more?
- Shift your mindset from “I have to” to “I get to.” The fact that you have the ability to create, lead, serve, or contribute in any way is a gift. Treat it like one.
At the end of the day, worship isn’t just about singing songs on a Sunday morning. It’s about how you live. How you work. How you lead.
So stop waiting for some magical moment to make a change. Decide today to step into the life you were created to live. Because the world doesn’t need another person just getting by.
It needs you, fully alive, fully engaged, and fully committed to making an impact.
Let’s go.
Morning Prayer for Purpose and Excellence
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this new day, for the breath in my lungs, and for the opportunities ahead. I recognize that You created me on purpose, for a purpose, and that every moment of my life—both in my work and in my relationships—is a chance to reflect Your goodness.
Help me to see my work, no matter how big or small, as an act of worship. Let me approach every task with excellence, integrity, and a heart that serves. Remove any mindset of complacency or mediocrity, and replace it with a spirit of boldness, creativity, and purpose.
Lord, I surrender my plans to You today. Align my heart with Your will. Open my eyes to the ways I can make an impact, and give me the strength to step into them fully. May my work bring You glory, my words bring life, and my actions reflect the greatness You have placed within me.
I will not waste this day. I will not play small. I will walk in purpose, because I know You have placed me here for such a time as this.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
